This year has been really consumed by thinking about and preparing for the possibility of getting pregnant and being a mama (it’s been a big shift for someone who never thought she’d have kids). My creative energy has primarily been filtering into that area of my life. Through this process I’ve felt a deeper connection to spirit and to my soul.
The other night my husband was out of town and I had my evening completely free. Normally I might have been pondering “what to do” for a little longer than I did that night. Because Magic Mike XXL just so happened to have dropped into theatres. I love going to movies on my own, so I whisked myself off for a hot date.
Little did a know, that in addition to these “creative juice” inspiring dance moves, would be so many beautiful lessons. One in particular that applies to you and your business.
The people drawn to me seem to have the biggest hearts. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by a community of helpers, healers and lovers. You want to change things for the better in the world and help everyone! When it comes to business, having this BIG heart and wanting to help everyone can have some serious pitfalls. These are really important for you to be aware of to ensure you're able to do you best work in the world.
I remember when I was just starting in this world of online business. I was learning about everything I could get my eyes and hands on (which was a lot). Niching, launch funnels, list building, opt-ins, client avatars, websites, social media marketing, youtube videos, and the list goes on.
One of my biggest challenges in building my business (and from what I hear it may be one of yours too) has been staying focused and productive.
I built my business to not feel like work. This makes it oh-so-easy for my ego to pipe up and say things like “You can do it this afternoon/tomorrow/next week.” “After just 1… 2 more episodes of The Mindy Project.” And “Things are good enough… you don’t really need to do this.”
And yet, somehow I’ve still managed to build a thriving business…
A few years ago I was so excited to launch this program that I had been working so hard on and was SO passionate about (“6 Weeks to a Turned ON You”).
I did all the things I thought I was supposed to do during a launch. I made videos, stayed up late, created valuable free content, stressed, floundered over lighting for videos, and stressed some more.
All so I could help women feel more turned on in their life.
And yet, here I was feeling the same way I noticed everyone else felt during their launches –stressed, overworked and zapped of energy.
70% of start up businesses fail in the first year. Soon after, some of the other 30%, with hard working, passionate people like you behind the scenes, are still destined for overwhelm and ultimately a future you weren't really dreaming of.
It goes to show how so many of us leap unprepared into our visions of freedom and riches, stepping out with wide-eyed optimism and blind faith that the Universe will catch us.
But, apparently, more than 70% of the time, it doesn't.
