3 Pivotal Thoughts That Will Change How You View Confidence
I spent about 4+ years feeling like if I just took one more course or got one more certification THEN I'd feel more clear and confident (and actually be able to get clients).
After soaking up the wisdom of Jack Canfield, Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins, Louise Hay + countless others, getting my degree, Reiki certifications, Life Coaching training, Strategic Interventionist training, a plethora of online business courses and a whole lot more - I was still left feeling like something was missing.
I was still questioning how to best express all my gift and passions into the world. And, I was still lacking in the confidence (and fulfillment) department.
"Will I ever be able to figure this all out and actually be able to use my gifts to help others?" I wondered.
Now, several years down the road I can say there are 3 very pivotal thoughts/moments that have forever changed how I view confidenceand the expression of my gifts and they may just do the same for you.
Want to hear? I hope so, because I'm going to tell you anyway.
1.
One of the most memorable and pivotal moments for me was after I invested in a mentor (at this point I've invested in a couple). 1x1 support. I'd always longed for this, especially from another woman. One of the things my first business mentor, Kris Ward, told me about confidence, growth and expression was along the lines of (it was years ago so this is my memory of it - thanks Kris!)...
By staying in a place of constantly needing to learn more and have more qualifications before stepping up and sharing (helping others) I was being selfish. There are people out there that don't know what you know and don't have the gifts you have (or the support you can provide).
By keeping your gifts and knowledge to yourself, by waiting to feeling confident or perfect enough, you are doing a disservice to those who are waiting for you.
This really hit home for me and ever since it's been a lot easier to take "imperfect" action, and I can honestly say I've helped thousands that I may not have otherwise. I bet the same will be true for you.
2.
"Moving forward does not necessarily require you to have confidence in yourself.
Confidence in Source/God/Universe/a higher power...) is enough along with knowing that God works through you and with you in all ways."
- Doreen Virtue.
One of the worst things you can do is put it all on you. Make it about you. That's a lot of pressure. (Although hard to admit, this is definitely one of my big areas of growth that I consistently have to remind myself of).
Meaning - ya, you need to show up, take action and learn and share what you need to. But, if you are making it about you (you getting Sally the results, or "healing" Joe) then you will feel tons more pressure (and probably burn out) + fear than you need to. Now, I believe in showing up, taking personal responsibility and being a conduit. It helps, I promise.
3.
Action is the biggest confidence booster.
Gaining knowledge is great but actually applying it changes everything. When I started taking action and using my knowledge to help others AND receive feedback from them that's when my confidence started going up. Let go of the need to have everything perfect (umm, I don't think that ever happens) before you take action.
When it comes to business (and life in general) there will always be new areas for growth where confidence hasn't been established yet. What's more important than anything is your confidence in your ability to trust yourself (and the Universe/God/Source...). As long as you've got that you'll be able to take on whatever you need to.
What areas have you been holding back because you don't feel 100% confident or perfect? What actions will you take to move forward anyways?
